The Licensed Behavioral Health Clinician, as part of the Addiction Medicine team, engages in a collaborative
process to assess, plan, coordinate and/or implement treatment options and services to meet a patient’s whole
healthcare needs. The clinician assists in the identification of substance use disorder(s) (SUD) treatment and
other community resources ensuring that available resources are being used in order to, reduce harm, obtain
improved patient outcomes, and an improved patient experience. The qualified candidate will have experience in
a fast pace clinical setting as well as expertise in evidence-based practices relevant to working with patients and
their families with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. The clinician will demonstrate
trauma informed care and cultural competence in care delivery. They will work within the multi-disciplinary
team to service patients at Brockton Hospital.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Addresses the total patient inclusive of medical, psychosocial, behavioral, cultural and spiritual needs.
· Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to establish measurable healthcare goals and prioritization
of the patient’s needs as well as identifying any barriers to care.
· Identifies and evaluates patients with mental health and SUD in order to provide appropriate care. Works
with community behavioral health partners to facilitate patient access to care.
· Assesses and Responds to patient crises as necessary.
· Consults with hospital and primary care providers around the impact of SUD on chronic medical
conditions and plans how to address these issues.
· Meets with patients and/or family members to provide therapeutic support when necessary.
· Uses evidence-based practices in treatment such as solution focused short term therapy, motivational
interviewing, person centered, trauma informed, and strength based approaches in treating patients.
· Refers to and collaborates with the community resources to locate concrete services for patients.
· Attends team, departmental and practice meetings.
· Pursues ongoing education to maintain competence in practice.
· Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to

· Commits to recognize and respect cultural diversity for all customers (internal and external).
· Communicates effectively with internal and external customers with respect of differences in cultures,
values, beliefs and ages, utilizing interpreters when needed.
· Maintains patient confidentiality, upholds limits of HIPAA and 42 CRF part II.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
· Comfortable with medical providers and medical terminology.
· Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
· Knowledge of ASAM criteria and levels of care.
· Knowledge of crisis intervention and evidence based treatment techniques.
· Knowledge of the interactions between mental illness/substance use disorders and physical illness.
· Experience assessing, diagnosing, and treating individuals with dual diagnoses, ages 16 and up.
· Ability to work in a fast paced, multidisciplinary environment.
· Comfortable working in the emergency room and on inpatient medical & Psychiatic units.
· Ability to work independently, proactively and take the initiative in decision making.
· Ability to seek out ways to constantly improve care and identify gaps in service delivery.
· Excellent time management skills.
· Ability to complete accurate and timely documentation using EMR (meditech)
· Ability to manage multiple technology systems/interfaces
· Knowledge of community-based resources.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER:
I. Education: Master degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social work, or equivalent, from an accredited
graduate program.
II. Experience (Type & Length): 3-5 years in a clinical setting required, acute setting preferred
III. Certification/Licensure: LMHC, LICSW, or LADC I (active MA independent clinical license)
IV. Software/Hardware: Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, particularly MS Word and Excel
