[VIRTUAL] Exploring Pathways of Recovery (CEUs)

Event description
Funded by BSAS

Introductory level

This three-hour professional development module is intended to educate human service providers about the various pathways of recovery for people with substance use disorders.  Recovery and its definition have vastly changed in just the past decade; what may work for one person in recovery may not work for all.  Intersecting identities, accessibility, and other factors may determine one’s capacity to utilize or participate in certain recovery services.  This training will explore the many pathways that people may take on their journeys to recovery.  Helpful skills and approaches to supporting individuals in recovery (e.g. motivational interviewing) will be explored.  Participants will also confront biases and stigma they may hold surrounding certain pathways of recovery in order to deepen their ability to provide holistic recovery support.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to…

  1. Define recovery
  2. Name 2-3 different pathways of recovery
  3. Explore the 10 different principles of recovery as defined by SAMHSA
  4. Discuss impacts of intersectionality (race, class, gender, etc.) on people’s ability/capacity to access recovery resources
  5. Challenge personal biases/stigma towards certain recovery pathways

Continuing education units (CEUs) will be offered in partnership with ADEPT Educational Institute (see below).
