Workshop Description:

This in person training will use didactics to review the core concepts of motivational interviewing (MI) and explore the evidence and applicability of MI for addressing suicidality in clinical settings. Application of MI skills will be demonstrated by the trainer and practiced by attendees using live role plays with feedback and discussion following demonstration and role plays. 

Objectives:

1. Understand the effectiveness of motivational interviewing for addressing suicidality 

2. Recognize suicide-related sustain talk and life-affirming change talk

3. Apply motivational interviewing techniques for conducting suicide risk assessment, navigating sustain/change talk, and providing brief interventions
