Description
As part of the twice-monthly MA OBAT ECHO® series, Megan Gerber, MD, MPH, FACP, will discuss the core principles of trauma-informed care and their application to the assessment and treatment of individuals with substance use disorders across a variety of clinical settings. Participants will also learn practical, trauma-informed strategies to reduce re-traumatization, enhance patient engagement, and support recovery-oriented care for individuals with SUD. Following the didactic presentation, an ECHO® participant will present a de-identified patient case for discussion. The session will conclude with recommendations and insights from the panel of experts and attendees.
Boston Medical Center's (BMC) 12-part Massachusetts Office Based Addiction Treatment ECHO® (MA OBAT ECHO®) offers training and support in addiction treatment, with a focus on comprehensive care for patients with substance use disorders (SUDs). The free, case-based tele-mentoring program is designed to increase the capacity of primary care teams to integrate addiction treatment using a multidisciplinary care model.

Speakers
Megan Gerber, MD, MPH, FACP
Dr. Gerber is division chief of General Internal Medicine. She sees adult patients at Albany Medical Center’s Internal Medicine Group and also serves as vice chair of the Department of Medicine for Faculty Development. As an internal medicine physician, Dr. Gerber diagnoses and treats common medical problems and chronic illnesses in patients aged 18 years and older. She has a special interest in women’s health and in trauma-informed care, which takes trauma and adverse childhood experiences into account as part of a holistic approach to medical care.
