Presented by Institute for Health Recover (IHR)

This training focuses on understanding how stigma can impact the treatment and recovery process for people with substance use disorders, particularly youth and young adults, and how we can address this as treatment providers. We will first identify different types of stigma (social, institutional, and internalized). We will then discuss the ways in which language can inadvertently perpetuate stigma around substance use and mental health, and best practices to change our language – along with other strategies we can implement - to reduce stigma for youth and young adults with substance use and co-occurring disorders. This training will also address ways in which we can help families to reduce stigma as well in order to best support their loved ones in recovery.

Audience
This training is aimed towards anyone working with youth and young adults; prior knowledge is not required.
