Description: This advanced training is designed for supervisors in the field of substance addiction prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery who have already completed foundational diversity, equity, inclusion & accessibility (DEIA) training. With attention to the CLAS Standards for workforce development, participants will explore ethical considerations and effective practices for supervising staff with social identities different from one’s own. Topics include:
Addressing the impact of the current climate on staff of targeted social identities
Balancing unconditional positive regard for clients with addressing racism and other forms of bias from clients and the impact on staff
Keeping CLAS Standards on the agenda
Centering CLAS Standards in employee performance evaluations
Setting staff up for success with CLAS skills
Retention and promotion to meet CLAS Standards
Ethical leadership and pitfalls to avoid
Cultural humility in supervision
