Alternatives to Suicide: Dialogue & System Change

Event description
Funded by BSAS
Yes
Introductory level
No

“Alternatives to Suicide” began in 2008 as one of the first harm reduction approaches to suicide in the world. The model is entirely developed by individuals with first-hand experience navigating suicidal thoughts and the psychiatric system. This course provides real alternatives to systemic approaches that leave individuals stuck and struggling. We will examine common myths about suicide and how to shift the narrative to provide support that addresses root causes and reduces risk of re-traumatization. We will examine ways address power differentials and create more authentic dialogues that have more potential to reduce the lethality of suicidal thoughts.

Audience
This highly interactive training is open to all roles that engage with suicide on a direct support or policy development level. No past experience with harm reduction practice is required.
