ZOOM LINK WILL BE SENT OUT CLOSER TO THE TRAINING

Description:

This workshop will provide participants with an understanding of SUD, MH and Co-Occurring disorders treatment, and the importance of integrated, simultaneous treatment. We will explore the differences in education and treatment perspectives between mental health clinicians and addiction treatment clinicians, and address the difficulties experienced by both in working with SUD, MH and Co-Occurring populations.

Participants will learn how to complete Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder assessments, and how to use and apply ASAM criteria when addressing placement needs for effective treatment outcomes. This workshop will also support participants to improve interviewing skills, enhance rapport-building to better engage clients, develop clients’ skills in taking responsibility for their own recovery, and address counselor’s insecurities related to working with unfamiliar populations. Participants will come away with an understanding of integrated care in Co-Occurring Enhanced, Capable and Integrated treatment milieus.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and explain the differences between mental health disorders, substance use disorders and the complexity of co-occurring disorders.
  • Explain the different historical perspectives of treatment with MH & SUD and the importance of treating both simultaneously.
  • Explain the basics of a mental health and substance use assessment.
  • Understand and apply ASAM criteria when engaging clients in the assessment process.
  • Describe different treatment milieus, how each works, what each focuses on
  • Explain integrated treatment and the importance of effective cross-system collaboration for people with Co-Occurring Disorders.
  • Inform clients about SUD and MH relapse risks and how they coincide.
