Individuals who work with youth and young adults in substance use disorder treatment settings face unique challenges when addressing tobacco and nicotine use. From trendy youth-targeted products to the invincibility mindset surrounding the health impacts of tobacco/nicotine, many staff experience obstacles around initiating and maintaining the conversation about tobacco/nicotine with young people. In this interactive session, we will discuss ideas for getting the conversation started in 1-1 sessions and in groups and brainstorm ideas for solutions to common challenges staff face when working with youth and young adults.
