In this training we will discuss the experience of trauma and how it relates to substance use as a means of coping.  We will discuss three factors that influence trauma and resilience. We will also discuss how to recognize trauma symptoms and identify trauma informed strategies that may be used to support recovery and resilience across the entire continuum of care.    

 

The target audience for this training includes substance use disorder treatment counsellors, recovery coaches, peer recovery specialists, harm reduction specialists, and others providing services across the care continuum.  

At the end of this training participants should be able to:

  1. Define trauma and resilience

  2. Describe three factors that influence trauma and resilience

  3. Explain why people who have experienced trauma might use substances

  4. Identify trauma-informed approaches to use across the entire continuum of care

‍We will be seeking LADC, MH, and SW CEUs for this training.
