Description
Many people seeking treatment for alcohol use may not have a goal of complete abstinence but are motivated to cut back on their consumption or engage in safer drinking practices. This training will review the burden of disease and impact of alcohol use in the United States. It will discuss clinical approaches to reducing alcohol consumption and utilizing safer drinking strategies with the goal of reducing alcohol-associated harms.
This session will equip team members across settings to better understand the principles of harm reduction for alcohol use. There is an opportunity to better explore the importance of identifying risky drinking and implement harm reduction strategies to help decrease risk. Although there will be some review of medications for AUD, this session will emphasize the role that many team members hold in regard to utilizing harm reduction principles for those who drink.
