This training will provide the foundational knowledge on addiction as a chronic medical condition and an overview of evidence-based interventions, including medications for addiction treatment (MAT).

Intended audience

Medical providers, nurses, social workers, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors (LADC), Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselors (CADC), Community Health Workers (CHW), recovery coaches, counselors, Licensed Mental health Counselors (LMHC), and members of the community.

Objectives

1. Describe the prevalence of substance use disorders in the US.

2. Define substance use disorders as chronic medical conditions.

3. Identify at least 3 evidence-based treatment strategies.

4. Recognize and respond to an opioid overdose.
