Developing Open Educational Resources

Open book lies flat, with pages flipping and turning into open hands reaching up

Many students are unable to afford textbooks, and Open Educational Resource (OER) initiatives strive to encourage high quality, free educational materials. The purpose of this Workspace is to collaborate on developing and finding OER materials related to substance use and addiction.

There are OER projects across the country and internationally. Northern Essex Community College has instituted an OER program encouraging instructors to use and develop such high quality, free educational materials. Over the past four years this plan has saved students at NECC an estimated $300,000. I invite everyone, especially those of us who teach at community colleges, to work toward this goal.
