Training Description:

This training focuses on ways to engage and support family members caring for youth and young adults with substance use disorders. Topics covered include: understanding parental challenges, reframing addiction as a chronic family disease, and identifying family recovery resources at the local, state, and national levels. 

This training is aimed towards anyone working with youth and young adults; prior knowledge is not required.

Objectives: Participants will be able to...

  • Identify at least five guiding principles for substance use treatment programs.
  • Identify best practices in screening and one evidence-based model for engaging youth and young adults in substance use treatment.
  • Identify at least three evidence-based clinical practices for substance use treatment for youth and young adults.
  • Identify at least one evidence-based model for engaging and supporting family members caring for youth or young adult with a substance use disorder.
  • Recall how to access licensed substance use treatment programs for youth and young adults, peer recovery supports, and family recovery resources at the local, state, and national levels.
