Description: 

This training will provide human service professionals with insight into military culture, the overlap of substance use disorders, trauma and brain injury, considerations when addressing suicide, and the impact of deployment on families and resources available to family members, veterans, and their family members.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this training, participants will: 

  • Become more culturally competent and feel more confident working with individuals with a history of military service.
  • Understand the networks available to assist the service member, veteran and family members along with the resources available to the community-based agency.
  • Identify characteristics and challenges of transitioning from military service to the civilian world.
  • Describe the interplay between drug and alcohol use, and Post-Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injury.
  • Become aware of the evolving trends in the behavior health-focused prevention, treatment, mental health,
  • and recovery support needs of service members, veterans, and their families.
